Hey guys,
this may sound like a dumb question, but I bought a regular CPI network card on ebay. Here is the card: http://images.esellerpro.com/2131/I/122/10/RTL8139D.jpg
But for some reason mine has a smaller section after the separator - it only has 7 metal connectors while the one on the picture has 11. (Sorry, no clue what the names are for those parts)
I'm trying to install it onto this board: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813138373
which does have a PCI slot. However, while the nic fits just fine, it's too short, it does not extend all the way to the end of the slot. What am I missing here?
I have Ubuntu 12.04 running on the box and it should pick that card up no problem, but it's not and I'm afraid it's because of this incompatibility.
Can someone shed some light on why the slot is too long/the card is too short?
Thank you.
