PCI slots slow?

Okay... So I have a network card plugged into this port (x16) since the GPU blocks the default port (x1) you should regularly put a network card in - http://imgur.com/qWD3LM0

Is it going to affect speed? If so, should I move the GPU and put the NIC card in the x1 slot?
My max ping is 3,000 and I'm not sure why. I know it's not the network card because I tried it with 2 different ones that have previously worked before.

Or is it a motherboard problem

Update : I used my wireless usb adapter and pings only go as high as 155, so it is a pci slot problem?

A network card will operate just fine in a PCIe slot providing more lanes than it needs. It simply won't use all of the lanes available in the slot.

No idea. What are you actually pinging that is returning such a high result?

Does the motherboard not supply it's own Ethernet port?

Wireless gateway from Xfinity. Just one that comes with the whole package.

Like said on the update the usb wireless adapter works fine.

These wireless gateways are less than ideal. Best to use them only for the modem function, and to disable the wireless. Than, you can add a real router that you have control over.

For now I just want to know how to fix this issue, all other pc's have no problem over wireless.
My usb adapter works fine for wireless but my nic cards aren't working like they should

Try a different cable in the NIC card to the PC. Make sure the drivers are up to date and installed. Try a different port in the router to connect to. When that does not work, it is a hardware failure, and get a new NIC.

If the motherboard has built-in Ethernet, try that.
