Hi everyone,

I have not seen many motherboards that have both Socket 478 and PCI-X.

I would like to put a new 7900GT in my old 478 pin P4 (800 Mhz FSB w/ PC-3200 RAM). :D

Does anyone have any recommendations on a make / model?

Thanks!

One problem with doing that. Your ram is going to slow down to ddr333, which is going to hurt performance. The FSB will also slow down to 533Mhz which is going to REALLY hurt performance. It would be a smarter idea to keep the 7900GT for now, and pick up the following parts when you have the money:

CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E6300

Mobo: Gigabyte GA=965P-DS3

RAM: OCZ Gold 2GB (2 x 1GB) DDR2-800

Power Supply: Antec Truepower 480W

If this simply isn't an option, your best bet would be to go for This board

Ahh PCI-E is the key. lol

Thank You guys for your info.

I'll probably stick with my existing RAM and Processor for a few more months, I'll be happier with a new car next month instead!

I currently have an Asus P4PE-X.. I like Asus stuff.
I got this 7900GT as a free replacement for a broken 6800GT :) yay

Thanks Again

The board that you pointed out is not compatible with Pentium 4s. It is fore Pentium M processors.

I don't think that there is a solution for PCI-e with socket 478. I have a socket 478 system and have looked around some. Intel never made a chipset for socket 478 that supported PCI-e.

You are probably just going to have to buy a new computer.

Just to add on to what you said... PCI-X and PCI-E are NOT THE SAME! PCI-E is primarilyl used for Graphics while PCI-X is a 64-bit PCI slot running at 66/100/133/266/533 MHz... now I haven't seen any mobos that support the 266 or 533 but they're coming out with a 1066... ok completely off topic. Also, PCI-X is generally used for network cards and RAID controllers.

Um... ok... why do you have so many? I'm fine with just one. Now I need a SCSI controller for my next build, anyone heard anything about the LSI MEGARAID SCSI 4X? It's quad-channel SCSI... drool.
