Question PCIe 1x in x16 slot

If I put a PCIe 1x card (it's a SATA drive add-in card) in a 16x slot will I still lose the SATA data drive slots? the manual says if I add a M.2 drive in slot two I'll lose two SATA slots. Would it be the same thing if I put this 1x card in there? Thanks!

no, you'll be making using of PCI-E lanes not the ports allocated for SATA
