Hi,

I was trying to add a (DeLock Dual USB 3.0 PCI Express Card) to my (older)
Medion 8818 PC, into the short PCIe 1x slot to no avail.

I tried a Logilink USB 3.0 card before without success.

The other 2 PCIe x16 slots are empty.

Motherboard is a Microstar MS-7318 with VIA chipset, BIOS a Phoenix 6.00 PG, from 2010.

The card is not recognized after installation and reboot, I re-seated it several times,
still no luck.

Using some diagnostic software I found the PCIe x1 slot is not listed in the SM/DMI BIOS section
, the other AGP and PCIe x16 slots however are listed.

Clearly, when the PCIe x1 slot is not even registered, then it is not an issue of the OS.

There is no option in the (reachable to me) BIOS to enable/disable this slot, also I found no hint of a jumper
to enable this slot.

So, I am at the end of my wits. Does anybody have an idea?

Hi,
same problem with sharkoon (nec-based) usb3 controller. PC is MD8822 with same motherboard.
Read somewhere about possible sharing of channels with above pci slots, but its a strange thing not being able to use the small pcie slot.
Already got an answer/solution?

Hi,
the only thing I can imagine is that there is a setting in the BIOS which enables/disables this short PCIe slot (unless there is a hardware problem obviously, which I can´t exclude, because this slot was never used before).

Unfortunately my standard on board BIOS configuration does not show any of these settings or any settings which might influence this behaviour. (if they exist at all).

I found a BIOS editor and Flasher for Phoenix BIOS, but it does not want to work with the BIOS binary which
I downloaded from the Medion website. It seems that Medion has cooked up something proprietary here.

In short, so far, no luck. I am going to try find a better diagnostic which tells me why the short slot is not recognized.

Hi,
did you use the instruction to flash bios to 1.14 from the medion site? (search for 8822)
I persnonally don't think it will help much..but i haven't tried it yet. Concerned of going step back in stead of further...

No I did not flash the BIOS. Too risky in my opinion. First I need to have a plan to recover if it goes wrong.
Besides their latest BIOS is not much newer than my actual one.

As for the short PCI slot not recognized, I have hints there is an error in the PCI IRQ routing table. I need to dig deeper into this....

Hi,
Did you found any solution? I have exactly the same problem with the same motherboard and DeLock USB 3.0 card...
