This MB has 7 PCIe slots and I want to install a 7 GPU coin mining rig. I can put one GPU on one of the 16X slots without covering any of the other slots and install the other 6 GPUs using PCIe 1X to 16X powered USB risers and mount them on a platform above the MB. When the system boots with a riser card and GPU connected to a 1X PCIe slot the GPU is not recognized. I have tried different slots and different risers and none of them are visible to the BIOS and therefore Windows will not use them. The GPU is powered using a VGA 12V power cable to the PSU and the PCIe riser is powered with a Sata to VGA cable.

My question is will this MB support these kinds of risers? I know that these kinds of risers are widely used to support multiple GPU setups with other motherboards but I don't know if the ASUS Z270-A is one that will work.

This is commonly done with 6 GPUs using other motherboards. The most widely used ones are the ASROCK Pro BTC H81 and ASROCK H97 Anniversary and everyone uses the riser cards with USB connecting the PCIe 1X to the 16X portion which plugs into the GPU. I'm just trying to use a different MB than most but since this one is pretty new with lots of capacity I was hoping it would work and recognize the PCIe risers like some of the other boards. Here is a picture of a typical setup:

Yea sure I have mounting pegs but that picture is not mine. My issue is getting any of the PCIe 1X risers to work. Only the directly connected GPU's are recognized. This is specific to this MB which is very new and not the "standard" one that any miners use yet to the best of my knowledge.

Did you ever get this working. I can only get 4 to work at ones. soon as you plug in 5th, then 3 of them become code 12 errors in device manager and only 2 work. 6 cards is also the same., only 2 work.

Hi, Did you ever manage to get this board to work? I can only get 4 working. Soon as I plug in 5th Card, I get code 12 then on 3 cards making only 2 work. Same with 6. I have also tried disabling a number of devices, sata ports, onboard GFX, USB etc and also set PCIe to Gen1 to no avail.

Same here, someone get this working with 5 or 6 cards?
