PCIe 3.0 x16 HELP!!!

I have a asus Maximus X Code Mobo and a 1080ti. Due to my cooling system I cannot fit the GPU in the first pcie slot. Two questions will this affect the performance of the GPU since in the bios it says it is only a x8 bus speed (even thought he manual says the mobo has 2 x PCIe 3.0 x16 slots) and if it does can anyone think of a means by which i can amend this?

Honestly, if a cooling solution is blocking that port there is something wrong in your setup.

Which cooler are you using?
