Hey all,

My motherboard is a MSI B85 G43 Gaming and GPU is RX480.

I have plugged my GPU into the top slot which according to my Motherboards Manual should support PCIE 3.0 x16 - However upon using the Board Explorer in the BIOS and then GPU-Z - It appears that it is only running at x4 speed...

Unsure if there is something I need to change, there is nothing else plugged into any of the other PCIE slots either.

I am using the TOP Slot closes to the CPU which I believe according to the manual is the 3.0 x16 slot. Have attached a few screenshots and hoping someone can help. One of the screenshots is the PCI Settings - Unsure if any of this needs to be changed?

Thanks so much.

For Screenshots.

Edit - Also worth noting have already reset CMOS and already updated BIOS to no avail.

Also PSU is Coolermaster V750

No need to be rude.

Yes I did read that and yes I did run the render test as well as trying it with Heaven and it still only reads at x4 speed.

Did not mean to come across that way. :)
Anyhow, the point is that when you are using the app, the PCI-e slot is most likely in an energy saving made and is thus restricted to 4x. It should scale up to x16 when needed.

I thought there should be as well, but I must be missing something...

I've gone through all the settings and each of the advanced settings and unfortunately are unable to find any area to choose PCIE link width per slot..

If you see something that I don't please feel free to point it out to me :)

Also no other devices in any other PCIE slots.

Thanks - I wish this was the case but it seems that even when playing games or running the heaven benchmark, it can't proceed past that x4 speed. :S

So I managed to borrow a GT730 from a friend (which would fit in without me having to move anything) and plugged it straight in with the motherboard without using the PCIE Riser and it runs at x16.

After I was confident that it was the riser (AGAIN!) I shuffled some things around and just mounted the RX480 in the PCIE slot (had to move my radiator etc which was why I was hesitant to do it in the first place in case you're wondering).

But if anyone reads this in the future and has purchased a Thermaltake Core P5 Mid and has the same issues, it's likely the PCIE Cable.

The one that came with the Case did not work at all in the PCIE 3.0 slot (only 2.0) and the replacement one they gave me only run PCIE3.0 at x4 - So if you're having the same issue, just get rid of the cable or find another company that makes them (I heard Lian Li ones are good but pricey).

Thanks everyone for your help and suggestions.

Glad you got sorted mate.
But, I don't remember you mentioning that you were using a PCIe riser cable. I would certainly have suspected that from the get go then.

My apologies, I thought I did to be honest but this was actually a replacement cable sent from Thermaltake so perhaps in the back of my mind I thought it would be fine.

Glad to have it sorted now anyway.
