Hi,

lets say I have an 8pin to 6+2pin reduction, a GPU that requires 1x8pin and 1x6pin, and a PSU that has 2x6pin connectors.

Can i use the 8pin to 6+2pin reduction in the following way: connect the 8pin to the GPU 8pin and the 6+2pin to the PSU 6pin leaving the +2 unconnected? From what i understand the +2 shold be nothing but ground so it shouldnt matter?

Thanks for the help,
Jacob

Ive never heard the term "8pin to 6+2pin reduction", so you'll have to post a pic of what you mean by that. All 8 pin PCIe power cables I've seen are 6+2 pin. You're not talking about an 8 pin ATX motherboard cable, are you?

And the +2 wires on a PCIe 6+2 connector are not both grounds. 1 is a ground and 1 is a +12V.

The adapter you mention doesn't exist as far as i know. What exists is a 6pin to 8 pin adapter (see pictures below). If the power supply is a good one, it can deliver the power for a 8-pin connector via the 6-pin because the standard 6-pin connector only uses 2 of the 3 power wires but most PSUs power all 3 of them making it enough to supply a 8-pin connector GPU.
