I'm having some troubles installing a new graphics card into my Acer Aspire m1640 machine; it will not let go of the onboard nVidia geForce 7050. My BIOS options lack any option to designate the PCIe slot for graphics and thus the system won't recognize the card; the PCI/PNP Setup menu reads as follows: (I put a * next to the current settings)
Palette Snooping [*Disabled/Enabled]
Clear NVRAM [Yes/*No]
PCI Latency Timer [32/*64/96/128/160/192/224/248]
Allocate IRQ to PCI VGA [*Yes/No]
PCI IDE BusMaster [Disabled/*Enabled]

Bios info is as follows:
System Bios ID: R01-A3
System Bios Ver: 08.00.15
SM Bios Version: 2.5

I've seen an online manual for this system with a different BIOS menu for this, with the option "Init Display First" to set graphics to PCIe. Is there any way to get this BIOS option on my system, or am I stuck with the on-board graphics and a temporarily useless gfx card?

The only wayto get the option, if it is available, is update the BIOS if Acer has one on their sight.
I doubt they have one.
I doubt that will fix it though.

That option is not necessary, if you don't have it.
Boards that have no first boot option, do it automatically.

I am not familiar with that board, but it seems old enough to have a PCIe version 1.0 slot.

I know they are all supposed to backward compatible, but many are not.
Try your video card in a newer computer, to be sure.

I have seen again, and again, new cards don't work in 1.0 slots.

I'm going by the fact that it has DDR2 memory, and the specs, on the PCI-e slot, don't list a version.
That usually means version 1.0
