I suspect this is probably hardware, but...

I have a Dell optiplex 9020 and a daughter PCIe add-in card, with an Intel ax WiFi card installed. Seemed to work quite well for a while, but now only seems to be detected occasionally by the mb on boot. Works fine on another PC. Have latest firmware, have reset the BIOS, etc. Running opensuse Linux, but is being missed even before the OS starts.
Any possible fixes, other than hardware?

hmm, i can't find anything like it. Its is strange it sometimes works and sometimes doesn't. You would think if its software it would always work.
Can you make sure card is in securely? maybe blow into the slot and see anything in it.

Yes, have double/triple checked that...
Only thing I can think that I haven't tried, is (BTW, live right beside the sea...), to try an clean the slot, as you say... Corrosion?? Although having inserted/reinserted so many times, that should be cleaned out....
Thanks.

i thought it might have dust or a random hair in the slot.

What model AX card is it? I see if I can find any other cases of it not working on the same model PC. I can look up to see what chipset it has. See if any known problems with it and linux

I don't know if it is cause PC is too old to see it, but as you say, it works sometimes so there is something there. I am so used to people using Windows I was about to suggest you use linux to see if it happens there... I won't bother now.

Thanks for persisting with me on this....
It's a Intel Wi-Fi 6 AX200 Network Card 802.11AX (PB# K40098-001?)
Yes, has been fine, but intermittently problematic, but recently has got noticeably worse.

Do you have any "non-destructive" ways of claning a PCI-E slot?? 😛

Thanks.

Someone else with same combo - https://forums.tomshardware.com/threads/dell-9020-wifi-6-and-ethernet-cards.3694127/ - but no errors reported as it was more a purchasing decision I think

is this a Small Form Factor?

Dell optiplex 9020 and a daughter PCIe add-in card, with an Intel ax WiFi card installed
daughter pcie card?

does the AX adapter look like this? link (nvm I looked)
are you attaching it to an adapter in a PCI slot or is the adapter in m.2 format?

Does other PC also have win 10? no 2 pc are the same so its not really helpful apart from knowing card works, we don't know what differences are.

I am surprised that works, does it have an aerial attached to back of the daughter card?
Those adapters are more for laptops, you should have just got a AX PCI card, not an adapter like yours unless you couldn't fit a full sized card?

should have got something like these - https://www.pccasegear.com/category/200_328/networking/network-adapters

nvm the m.2 question, your board is too old for that (slaps self)
Maybe the problem is the daughter card you are using.

is this a Small Form Factor?
No, desktop. Has 3x PCI-E + 1x PCI.
daughter pcie card?
Yes

PCI-E slot adaptor, and , yes Identical to that card

No Win, just Ubuntu version...

Thanks.

Sorry for all the questions,

Is it the same daughter card in both cases? do you move it with the adapter?

If the lenovo is older than the Dell, its strange it doesn't have any of the issues.

As it happens in bios, its obviously a hardware problem.

i can't locate a similar case, you might want to ask on the Dell forums and see what they suggest - https://www.dell.com/community/Optiplex-Desktops/bd-p/Optiplex
I can find other people running similar cards in PC so it should work.
