PCIe Cards up with Graphics Card

I have a Dell XPS 8100 with the original motherboard. I'm looking to add USB 3.0 connectivity via a PCIe card. However, the way ports are laid out on the motherboard, my graphics card sits "upside down" so the heatsink/fan would sit right above whatever card is in that PCIe slot. They won't touch, but there is little free space. It's worth noting that the PCIe card will be shorter than the graphics card, so the overlap won't completely smother the graphics card.

I don't do any gaming/3D work - just basic monitor display and playing video. Will I be good to put a card in that PCIe spot without fear of the graphic card overheating?
