I can seam to find this new PCIe eSata listed in device manager. There are no unknown device listed and I can't find it under any other catagory.

This is the PCIe card:

I tried to connect an eSATA RAID tower to it and nothing happened. I also has regular SATA conectors, so I'll try that as well.

I'll try the manufactures driver and see if that helps.

OK, I tried to connect a SATA (internal) HDD and I was able to access it. But I'm still unable see my RAID enclosure via eSATA.

I also tried connecting to the enclosure with USB and nothing showed up. Maybe the enclosure is the problem?

Did you install the ASMEDIA device driver for the card?

Was the eSATA port, that the RAID enclosure was plugged into, enabled via the proper jumper settings?

I check the jumpers and they look good.

I was getting an error when I tried to run the .exe install file but I tried pointing to folder and windows found it :).

Unfortunately, the eSATA device is still not showing up :heink:

The StarTech PEXESAT322I card does not have a RAID controller. It does support port multiplier which is needed by the TowerRAID TR4UTBPN.

The RAID controller has to reside in the enclosure otherwise the TowerRAID TR4UTBPN wouldn't work properly when plugged into a USB3 port.

What is the brand and model of your motherboard?

Here is what CPU-Z says. It was a pre-built desktop from Dell.

Great news! I can San Digital and was able to get it to work 😀. I needed to use the reset button on the back to fix it.

I start to transfer about 1TB worth of stuff from my old drive (~100MB/s) and it was going good for about 20mins. I left the computer and when I came back I found the one of the HDD lights had turned orange, indicating an error. The transfer is still going and has about 2.5 hours to go. The manual doesn't tell what to do if this happens :??:.

I put my hand on my HDD and seems very hot. I know it is doing a lot work now and they are enterprise class drives but is it normal for them to get this hot:??:? I've never felt a drive quite this hot.

According to your manual, using reset must have caused erasure of your previous data and a new RAID setup? Also, manual says red HDD indicator means error. So you have to replace that specific HDD and rebuild the array.

I'm not sure why the drive is coming up red. If I detach it and hook it up to a SATA connector it works fine. I'm running the WD HDD tester on it.

Your drive may not be physically damaged but parity data may have got corrupted during the previous restore operation, I guess.

Does RAID 1 use parity? I thought that was RAID 5... If it is the parity data then re-formatting the disk should fix it, right?

There was a customer on Newegg.com's customer feedback for that RAID enclosure that reported that the temperature was at 45°C.

Ideal would be 38-39°C.

Monitor the SMART data for your hard disk drives to determine the temperature that they are reaching.

No, it doesn't; but you never told before what you use, so I guessed blindly. Even if it isn't parity but mirror data getting corrupt you should be able to rebuild the array by providing the system with a clean HDD. What I do not understand though is why such an error should occur, assuming the hardware raid isn't failing.

I'm confused ... I tested the disk, both are fine and re-formatted both. I reset the RAID but one disk is still appear to has an error. I tried accessing this drive via SATA and it works perfectly. This just doesn't make scene :heink:.

I don't know how the RAID controller marks a disk as bad. I re-formatted so I guess it is not on the disk directly. Maybe it uses a serial # or hardware ID of some kind?

Probably a problem with the RAID firmware. Hard disk drives store S.M.A.R.T. (Self-Monitoring, Analysis and Reporting Technology) data that would most likely be used by the RAID controller. You can download and use a freeware utility to view the S.M.A.R.T. data.

Others have reported that their array would fail to rebuild so you're not alone.

Contact Sans Digital Tech Support for a solution, if they have any.
