PCIe power cables not working.

So i bought a PCIe power cable from Ebay because i didn't have one and my GTX 1070 has just got here so i ordered this from ebay: http://

So it takes 3 days to get here and i'm ok with that. Then when it gets here, i try to plug it in. It just doesn't work so i find this part of the connector where there is plastic that is not allowing it to go in. So i cut it and i try again, didn't work. I cut some more it doesn't work! So then i got rid of the plastic i cut it finally goes in and stays in but..... my computer tells me to connect the PCIe cable still. The cables are fully plugged in. Here are some pictures: http://

Let me note a couple things: On the plastic packaging it says "For SilverStone PSU's only, refer to website for details". When i went to the ebay page it said NOTHING about it being SilverStone exclusive. So i went to amazon to read some reviews and it was exactly as i expected it to be.
Here is a review from amazon to explain the cable: Once modified to remove the bridge between two connectors, the cable worked fine. Rating between 2 and 3 purely subjective. It is a very good cable, but time was wasted identifying and then correcting the problem. Almost returned it, except I could not not find an alternate. Modifying a product should not be necessary in order to have the product function properly.

So now i'm thinking about just going to a small computer shop and seeing if they have any cables because no else sells them really. Not even Best Buy or Staples.

Thanks for the read and your help, if you need any more info, ask.

Modular power supply cables from different manufacturers very frequently have different pinouts. You can't simply find any old modular PCIE cable and shove it into any old modular power supply. Just making the shapes the same doesn't necessarily work and frequently can cause far worse problems than you appear to have caused so far. A hand is just the right shape to fit into a toaster slot, that doesn't mean they go together.

In your case, your best options are to contact Corsair for cable replacements or get a new power supply (and hopefully better quality).

I don't understand do you want me to get a new PCIe cable or to get a new power supply? The 8 pin connector fits i had to modify the cable for it to fit but it fits. It just doesn't work. :/

Ok. People on amazon said this cable is universal and should work if your PSU has PCIe female out.

Those Corsair CX power supplies are built with low quality parts. Far too many of them fail in the first year, and even more the second year. They were and are cheap. And you got what you paid for.

When you buy the parts to build a computer, and then when you get to the power supply, and you buy the cheapest power supply available, did you ever stop to wonder why those are $20 to $30 less than any other power supply of the same capacity? Well, the reality is that most companies have chosen to use high quality parts to build their power supplies. But even more companies have chosen to build their power supplies with much cheaper, low quality parts. And it looks like Corsair has chosen the low quality parts route in several of their product lines.

Seasonic, XFX, EVGA (as long as the part number as a 2 in the second part of it, avoid units that have a 1 in the second part of the part number), SuperFlowere, and lots of other companies make high quality power supplies. I encourage you to buy one of those units and to avoid the cheapest power supplies out there.

Ok well what would you recommend for my next PSU? I'm going to see if i can get some replacement cables and see if that works i mean the CX600 was $60 when i bought it last year in February. Thanks though.

Here's 4 of the best to choose from , I like the RMX 550w from Corsair , but these are all very good.

Thank you! I'm probably going to get the corsair or EVGA one. Thanks again.

I want to ask something using this thread. Will be a loss on terms of performance using an extender or something like molex to 6-2pin? I can't find why should be risky. I mean, your PSU is cappable to support the wattage, why using a 'converter' will damage something?

Buy a high quality power supply, and it will come with more than enough PCIe power cables to power a video card that needs multiple PCIe power cables. Adding more cables to the power supply is not going to make it produce more power.

Much like adding a second gas tank to a car is not going to make it run any faster...

But he doesn't have the PCI-E Express cables which comes with the PSU, i mean, he is not adding wattage usage, only finding a patch to the missing cable.

Yes, he's not using the correct cable adapter, but its not the point of my question.
