So I'm trying to diagnose a friends computer. He has a brand new ASRock z97 Extreme 4 motherboard and a 970.
Ran successfully for about a week, then crashed gaming and since then the top PCI e slot doesn't work. Crashed when booting and such. (Error code D6)
He moved it to the second slot and it works, but wants SLI in the future, so we need to diagnose the problem.
Sounds simple, bad slot. But there's still something bugging me about his.
I also have a 970, we SLI'd the two cards in his computer just cause. As long as the hdmi cable is in the second slot's card (good slot), the computer boots, and will run. BUT even when SLI is enabled properly, the first card (in the bad slot) only runs at about 8-9%.
It is recognized by software, and we can adjust settings, but it never takes any load. This makes me think the slot ISN'T the problem. I have no idea at this point. Anybody else run into something like this?
