Ok I bought a new MB to replace an old one as per another thread.

Long story short, can I use the second PCIE slot?

I would rather the gpu wasn’t so close to the cpu heatsink.

I’ve attached a photo showing the MB specs in the links below

The GPU is an MSI 1070 X

MB Asus Maximus Formula z77

Thanks

You can use it but the slot only has 8 PCIe lanes so in theory your GPU will be slower. As to what slower translates into in the real world, not much, its a very small percentage with a GPU like a 1070. If you're ok with that it will work fine.

The back of the GPU doesn't usually go very far above the PCIe slot. Tight tolerances are Ok, the GPU fans aren't being blocked and there's still plenty of room for the cpu cooler.

I totally agree, it’s more of an OCD thing if I’m honest. I’ve opted to go with the x8 PCIE slot.

Reason I opted for this is the Pc is for my daughter and she’s playing at 1080p and Minecraft mostly.

I doubt she’ll be pushing the GPU to the extent she would notice performance issues, not that they are noticeable anyway based on the answers I’ve seen.

Thanks
