So i'm trying to bay a new convertible laptop with only one mini PCIe slot, is there a way to split this port using an adapter? My reason for this is i want to see if i can extend the one mini PCIe into an empty drive bay caddie where i'd retrofit the wireless card from the original (and now extended) PCIe slot and have the other split slot fitted to the external drive bezel to have a sort of plug and play port for an external gpu adapter. Any one have some insight on this or know if its possible to split a PCIe slot? if so where i can obtain the necessary equipment?

so in all it would look like

mini PCIe slot > Extension adapter > Empty Drive Bay
V to V
retrofitted wireless card < Empty Drive Bay > PCIe slot

I don't think this can be done! Besides most convertible laptops have SOC's instead of typical CPU's with an onboard soldered radio chip

Well the laptop i'm considering doing this to is an Asus Q551LN-BBI7T09, would you happen to know if its running SOC?

It's the i7 model right? Not an SOC. So yes you could shift the Wifi card via a PCI E lane splitter. Does your convertible come with the Dedicated GPU?

yea its the i7 model, it comes with a dediecated nvidea geforce 940m

now I can't find the mobo of your laptop anywhere, and it seems like it has been discontinued? Anyway, the thing is an external gpu will need at a bare minimum 8x lanes and I don't know how many lanes your motherboard provides. Also another thing to consider is if your motherboard bios will at all support an external GPU
