Question PCIe SSD card x4 mode in x16 slot using x8 mode

Hi. I have an Asus P6X58D-E motherboard with three PCIe 2.0 x16 slots. They can either work in x16/x8/x8 mode or x16/x16/x1 mode. The 1st PCIe slot is taken by the graphics card. Would a PCIe SSD x16 card that uses only 4 lanes (x4 mode) work on the 2nd/3rd slots?

If you configure PCIE slots in x16/x8/x8 mode,
then you can install x4 cards in PCIE_x16 slots #2 and #3 and they will work at full PCIE 2.0 x4 bandwidth.

This Sabrent which takes a single NVMe SSD for example. I was looking at others that take multiple cards, like the one, but I'm not sure my motherboard supports bifurcation.

That one fits in PCIe x16 slots but singgle NVMe drive uses only PCIe x4 lines. It shouldbe fine in a PCIe x16 slot with PCIe lines from the chipset whch are usually all but first one.

I have 2 of those and they work fine in slots that only have 4 lanes wired.
