I'm honestly not 100% sure on the version of PCIE slot I have, but I'm assuming it is version 1 because it says PCI Express x16. I would like to buy a new video card for my computer, but almost all the latest models require a PCIE version 2 or 3. I know they're backwards compatible, but I would really prefer having the full experience of the video card, and would preferably be able to upgrade my PCIE slot to version 3 because I'd like to get the gtx 750 ti. Is this in any way possible without having to buy a whole new motherboard?

No you cannot upgrade your PCIE slot. it is a hardware limit of the motherboard. You could have any version of pci express. that video card will run fine on pcix 2 or 3 with almost no notacable difference in speeds.

do you know what motherboard you have or what model computer you have?

The model computer I have is a 2010 HP Elite 7100 Microtower

So would I be able to run a card that required PCI-E x16 version 3.0?

correct. all PCI-E cards are backward comtatible no matter what version the slot is

what is the actually card you plan on getting? GTX 750 ti made by who? Link to the one your going to buy?

UPDATE:my consurn is power usage vs power supply in system

Using PCIe 2.0 x16 won't bottleneck a 750TI, also try to look for the version that doesn't require the additional 6 pin connector which consumes less power, that will be the best choice for your machine.

I'd like to get the gtx 750 ti made by gigabyte

my current power supply is 300w, but if it's necessary i can buy another one possibly for 500w

ok if my PCI-E slot wont bottleneck the card, will my cpu? I have a Intel Core i5 650 3.2ghz processor.

Not really, it's an old CPU yes but does have a decent performance, you should be good with it.

How do I know what which one does and which one doesn't have the additional 6 pin connector?

Thank you I appreciate this, I think I'll be choosing to purchase this one then! :)
