Has anyone ever managed to fix a PCIe 2.1 video card in a PCIe1. x16 slot ?
If yes , was there any good amount of performance degradation for a $200 graphics card ?
I m desperate to find a solution and the fact that i m from India makes it even worse since the graphic card vendors over here dont know s*** about computers :pfff:
Please guys , throw me some light on this issue :??:
Anyways , thanks in advance .

I searched for PCIe2.0 cards in AMD s website and it looks like they got rid of all the PCIe2.0 version cards and they roll out their new cards as PCIe2.1 version cards . I planned to get the HD 6850 and my mobo is a DG35EC . Can you help me ????

Very hard to find a definative answer. Also some dif between ver 1.0 and ver 1.1. Also verify your Bios Version, MB manuf. may have a Bios update so that it will work. Look at latest bios update and what was "fix" by it.

sadly it won't support pcie 1.0 or pcie 1.0a. a pcie 2.1 card would require newer chipset after g31/q965 and require pcie 1.1(at least) to run pcie 2.1 card. even so it is still having issue with some after market card and some certain amd model like 5670/5570. so called the backward compatibility is only applies to reference model in most case(nvidia) or limited to some model(amd). keep in mind these chipset under the list do not suppose pcie 2.1 despite pcie has backward compatibility. these chipset will not support pcie 2.1

amd 690x and previous series

And from Jaquarkx
There is a difference with PCI-e 2.0 and PCI-e 2.1 cards. A PCI-e 2.0 card is backwards compatible with a PCI-e 1.0 slot. That is not the case with all PCI-e 2.1 cards. It basically boils down to if the PCI-e 1.x slot in the motherboard is properly configured or supported by the chipset.

Some motherboard manufacturers have released BIOS updates for older motherboards with PCI-e 1.x slot to be compatible with PCI-e 2.1 cards, but you have to check specifically for your motherboard.
