hey guys thanks for you time!
i have an interesting one here.. i heard one my drives making weird noises.. and noticed it was getting slow.. i ran chkdsk it took FOREVER but finished and didnt find any issues (but i know better!) lol so i got another hard drive and got ready for backup.. turned the computer off
and bam the hdd doesnt work anymore.. it spins but its not recognised in the BIOS and of course windows..
i just so happened to have an identicle drive i bought along side this one.. i figured id switch the pcb out and see if that does the trick and heres where things threw me for a loop
the model number is seagate barracuda st2000dm001
drive 1 (broken drive) with original pcb not showing in bios or windows
with the pcb from identicle drive its shows in bios but only as a 4gb drive?
drive 2 (good drive) i decided to put the suspected bad pcb on it.. and it shows up in the bios!???
but only as 4gb also
i am officially lost.. i was thinking of just doing a platter swap on an identical drive.. but the way this one is made i dont think its possible..
i know im supposed to swap the bios chips on the pcb maybe that way its showing up as 4gb?
but whats got my mind boggled is the bad pcb shows up in the bios on a different drive but not the one its originally attatched to
any help is greatly appreciated
