While trying to write some audio files in an 8 GB pendrive already had been used by somebody else somewhere, I get the message it is 'write protected'. Sometimes the error message is 'read only'. Sometimes it is possible to format it; sometimes the above error messages. After formatting (when I am able to do) it shows full free space is available, but while writing, it says read only or write protected. Sometimes I am able to write different files of about 900 MB (after formatting), and sometimes (after formatting) only about 200 MB files, and again about 1 GB files. Sometimes after detaching when its says write protected (after writing files of about 700 MB), the next day I am able to write a few more files to it.

I am sorry I am confusing, but this is the actual situation. Please help me.

My guess is the drive is dying/defective and is setting itself to read-only after running into an internal error to avoid further data corruption. How much data you manage to write each time you plug it in or format depends on how quickly it runs into said errors.
