I replaced my pentium 3 slot 1 - 700mhz x 100mhz bus with a 733mhz x 133 bus. Why won't it work? The computer won't start. Won't even turn on the monitor or go to safe mode. I have two just alike and neither works. I put the 700 back in and eveything works perfect.

can your board support 133 bus? different power requirements that not all boards supply. Have you checked your mobo manufactuer's website to see if that is an acceptable upgrade?

I have no idea how to answer those questions you asked. It is a very fancy Dell tower loaded with top of the line hardware. Would certainly assume it could be upgraded even to the P3 1000mhz, which is what I really want since an original $1000 processor now goes for just $50 bucks. As for the bus speed, I always assumed a faster bus would just slow down and run at the slower speed - not refuse to work at all. How do I determine if the bus can be stepped up, and if not I guess I'll have to look for faster P3's with 100mhz bus speeds. Didn't they make 100's in 850 and 1000mhz?

Hey smartass, it was top of the line in 2000. I don't recall comparing it to a Windows 8 computer asshole. If you can't bring something of value to the table then stay the hell off the board. I seriously doubt you ever had a computer as serious as my oldie was in 2000, or as serious as this Sony is now. In fact, you probably weren't weaned from tit yet in 2000.

Wow someone's alittle touchy tonight  and back in 1999 i had a workstation with a pair of P3 550mhz Xeon's

ok well now that we have the non helpful out of the way,

what i would need to help you is at least the model of your pc, if not the motherboard model. Usually printed on the board or a sticker on the board will say mdl or model or something like that. Then we can reference it

Wow a trip down memory lane!

In those days Dell was notorious for taking the upgrade path out of your hands, in most cases if you wanted to upgrade you had to send the entire machine to Dell to get it done.

Those were also the days that 100mhz was phasing out and 133mhz was coming on the scene, if your motherboard is capable it will have to be BIOS flashed to update it.

Are there any BIOS flash upgrades available for that motherboard?, and what exactly do those BIOS flashes cover?

If you're not going to help, just pass on by, thread disruption is actually breaking the forum rules, if you're going to continue this behavior I suggest you read the forum rules, because if you keep crossing that line you will be in moderator action territory.

When that day comes at least you will be fully aware of why it's happening to you. 4Ryan6
