I just got my P4 to run stable with the P4PE Asus board. Now runs Video 3dMark2001SE with no problem with score 14278 at default settings.

The speed is oficially at 150Mhz x 20 = 3Ghz. Had to boost volts to 1.65v. The memory is stock standard DDR400 but now clocked with ASUS fsb set to 150Mhz the memory speed is now 400Mhz. This would normally be 355Mhz DDR clock speed but thanks to ASUS and their oc feature its a rocket 400Mhz.

Its a stock standard Intel 2.66 Pentium 4, 1.525v with factory heat sink.

Video = Radeon 9700

CPU Temp = max 65c ~ 69c, MB Temp = max 47c, Video Heatsink = max 57c.

I made a few mods to the power supply, I got the air sucking direct into vents above cpu straight out of case via power supply, I managed to lose somemore CPU max. I had to pick the best power supply case and the best power supply pcb out of my collection of junked spares. It depends on the location of the sensor in the Power Supply. If its on one of the heatsinks it blows full speed ... etc. I hate noisy cases so I am fine tuning the sensor for least noise. Its a single 0.23watt ball bearing job. Funny thing is this system runs fine with a 250 watt ATX, but I now have 300 watts.

Oh yeah man, Aopen is the power supply brand that has the vents on the top cover.

250 watts!!!!! holy crap!!!! I always thought p4's needed at least 300w. sounds like you've got a pretty stable sys!!!!!!!!!!!!! w t g

I am on a shoestring budget, but on page 2-23(for ASUS P4PE users) it says that minimium is 230watt and 300watt for fully configured system. I guess bigger is better, so everybody goes for server grade 450watt PS.

😱

You have a Power Man power supply. Manufactured by the FPS (Fortron/Source Powerman) group, it sells under the brand names Sparkle, Aopen, and PC Power & Cooling. These power supplies are amoung the few rated by their true power capacity instead of peak power capacity. It's most likely comparable to a 350W Anetec or 300W Antec TruePower.

Sorry to say that its no longer any brand power supply, but yeah Aopen is a very good brand. I got the FPS/Aopen PS case with vents on cover directly above cpu, and I got some parts from gutted PS and I am using a supposed 300watt PCB with 2 little cct boards. I needed the 4 pin ATX +12/-12volt plug for ASUS motherboard. note: Asus P4PE works fine without this ATX plug installed, the manual is wrong because its not necessary everytime.

Cct board 1 has relay for AC power to go to monitor socket, this cuts power to monitor when switched off.

Cct board 2 has a Fan Speed controller, had to replace the TL431. Nice and quiet until CPU gets hot, then full blast. I located the heat sensor above a heatsink in front of vents in PS to get the thing to spin slowly when cool.

I am going to save for a Vapochill case, I like it.
