So here I am again looking for insight, I'm working on an older PC right now ye olde HP a1010n with an MS-6743 motherboard. I've already got 2 Windows 7 computers and my Windows 10 pc. But Now I want a Windows XP, and this motherboard is a little tricky when it comes to choosing the CPU. I plan on getting an SSD either an intel to use the SSD tool or maybe even crucial I hear they have some that do trimm stuff on XP as well. But the problem is pretty much the title, you have the Pentium 4 3.4 GHZ and Pentium 4 Extreme 3.2 GHZ. As nice as it would seem to Immediately go for the extreme I don't know if that L3 cache that the Pentium 4 3.4GHZ doesn't have will actually work within XP. Or even if the fact that SSE3 that the Pentium 4 3.4 GHZ processor has that the Extreme edition doesn't have. I need more insight, if the SSE3 or L3 Cache is irrelevant in XP then it just makes it easier to go for the cheaper of the two and call it a day. Also the Extreme edition has not been tested on the MOBO for compatibility.

I am referencing this site for compatibility:

And these two CPU's for the upgrade:

Unless an offline retro gaming system and lots of time/desire to play F.E.A.R, Quake4, Medal of Honor, etc., I just can't see any utility in a single core system any more....and WinXP is far beyond any safe status to use online.
That is actually the goal, I am even considering building up a Win 98 PC when I get the time.

I'm not going for minimum specs here. xD
