Hello,

I decided to upgrade my parents PC rather than waste money on a new one. Dell Dimension Pentium 4 630, 3Ghz, 2x 512 RAM, motherboard type 0yc523, chipset i945p

Bought:-

-SSD (crucial)
-GeForce 610
-Intel pentium D945
-3x 1 GB RAM (crucial) (left 1x 512MB on motherboard, closest to CPU)
-Win 8 pro 64 bit.

Everything went well, updated Bios to A07 (recommended by dell).

However...

Only allows x86 install, despite booting from usb and doing clean install.
Bios menu says its 64 bit, as does computer properties.
I don't know why windows will not install 64 bit OS, I tried to format hard disk completely, and that didn't work.

Any ideas?

I did my research (tried at least)

Intel Pentium D 945 should be fine.

The chipset from what should be irrelevant.

You may ask why do I want to install 64 bit windows...
Well, the computer is much improved, its just the icing on the cake 😀 , also I am trying to figure out what I missed...

Did you change the bootdisk in the BIOS to the flash drive?

Then boot from whatever USB flash drive you have?? You didnt try to format the hdd within windows right?? Because you cant

And what did you use to put it on USB??

And make sure you a clean install of x64. Because you cant upgrade from 32 to 64 bit

I did not change the boot to flash drive from bios, used f12 key to boot from flash drive, it went on install, but stopped at 7% unpacking windows, several times.

I did format the hard drive, and used rufus, to create flash usb. I was using 32 bit windows when I did this.

After your suggestions, I changed Bios boot order, created new flash using 64 bit laptop, through Windows USB/DVD Download Tool.

I do not know which one helped. But it worked now.

Thank you
