Hi all, I have an old PC which I connected in LAN with my newer one. I used it to play older games via LAN and I was thinking about upgrading it a bit. It has a Foxconn 865A01-PE-6EKRS motherboard, Celeron D 335J, 1 GB RAM and a Radeon 9600 PRO. I found a used Pentium 4 3.2Ghz (SL7E5) mpga478 for cheap and I was wondering if its compatible with this board. I was unable to find the compatibility list.

Solution
The processor you desire may work, however I am not entirely sure. Researching online, I have found an old manual for your motherboard, which lists CPU's which have been tested to work (other CPUs may work too, this is just a list of those which are guaranteed to work, as it has been tested).

I have made this list myself based on the manual, therefore I have researched into the CPU's and have been able to determine which one they're identifying in the manual (in other words, took quite some time for me to build this list 🙁 ). If you want to take a look at the manual (which is my source), click here and go to page 23.

Also as a note, the lower you go on the list below, the weaker the processor is; therefore the higher you are on...

Finally all complete! As stated before, the higher up you go on that list, the better the processor. All these processors are guaranteed to work, according to the manual. If I was you, I'd get a Pentium 4 with 800MHz FSB and with HyperThreading at the highest frequency. It should be cheap today, and will provide you the best upgrade you can achieve. Unfortunately even then, it still doesn't match up to today's processors.

If you want to view general details about your motherboard, you can access this page over at Foxconn.

All the best.

Thank you so much. I know the upgrade won't be much considering the standards today. I'll use that PC mainly for playing Quake III and Unreal Tournament in LAN so it should work like a charm.
