Hi,

I have a Dimension 5000 with a Pentium 4 3.8GHz 2MB L2 cache

I've had installed 4GB RAM

& AMD HD 6450 graphics card with 1GB 600MHz DDR3

Required mainly for use with Photoshop CS5

Would upgrading to a faster Pentium 4 CPU improve the performance for this application?

Any reccomendations please?

Thanks Steve Shaw

I don't think they make a faster P4. Might be time to upgrade to a newer cpu. What motherboard and socket do you have? Maybe a dual or quad cpu will fit?

Not really. The Pentium 4 was probably one of the worst CPU's made by Intel and I really don't think upgrading to a different model of the Pentium 4 will make any performance difference. You would be better off getting a new computer or building your own around the Sandy Bridges or new Ivy Bridges CPU.

Sorry, but there is no possible CPU upgrade for you. The 3.8GHz P4 is the fastest P4 Intel ever made, and your chipset doesn't support anything other than P4's or Celeron D's. http://ark.intel.com/products/chipsets/5341. Even though your motherboard is LGA775, it isn't compatible with any of the newer LGA775 chips, because of the higher voltage. In addition, it's annoyingly difficult to upgrade the motherboard on a dell, since they generally use proprietary motherboard form factors.
