I am looking at the Pentium D 830 (EM64T 32bit/64bit)

Now please someone explain to me the EM64T meaning,
And why do they say [32bit/64bit SmithField) , Is it 32 bit or 64 bit , someone should make up ones mind ,

it is a 32 bit CPU with extensions that allow it to run in a 64 bit processing mode.

Uh, that's a joke. <font color=red>EM64T</font color=red> isn't 2 bits less than AMD64, because it's missing 2 instruction sets. In fact, it would be more correct to call them 40something bit, since they are only capable of using that type of memory addressing.

ok then so my info was kinda off (most ppl here seems to say that lol) so they are missing 2 sets, but it affects more than just 2 bits, making it not 64 bit but like 40 some bit? ok i won;t get that wrong again. but ya gota give me some credits right? i mean i got the missing 2 sets of instructions part right.

Actually, you still have it wrong. Bothe the Amd64, and the EM64T are only able to address memory to 40something bit addresses. Not having those two instruction sets affects how the intel chip deals with certain operations, and does not affect how much memory can be addressed.
Not that this matters all that much, or I would do a better job of keeping it straight myself. I just didn't want you to think that there we 1 instruction set per bit.

I thought the prescott simply sucked @ 64bit because the ALU's go from 32bit to 16bit again which completely defeated the purpose of upgrading from northwood to prescott in the first place.

Actually, that's not entirely true either now, since Intel's lastst cores with EMT64 will now have those previously missing two operations. (LAHF and SAHF are used for storing and recalling status flags in the AH register.) So basically only the early Intel adopters are screwed. Intel johny-come-latelies should now have 100% compatability with AMD64.

Just look for Intel's new G-1 core products. Not only does the core upgrade add these two instructions, but it also is compliant with European Reduction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) regulations.<pre><font color=orange> ∩_∩

Actually, yes, and not not something better. :\

I heard more like 14 Nov for the P4, 28 Nov for the Xeon, and 2 Dec for the Celeron. Of course those are when they're meant to hit the market in quantity. Sampling is supposed to be starting in mid Oct, if not earlier.

Bummer to all those who went right out and got the first EMT64s from Intel, but then early adopters <i>are</i> the risk takers. Personally, I almost never buy anything until it's been revised enough to work out the kinks. :O
