Hi, I've never really done the overclocking thing before, but after seeing the results everybody else seems to be getting from the e2160 and e2180, I'm feeling the need to rebuild my rig and give it a try.

Most of the overclocked PDC rigs I've seen have been running on Intel chipsets (P35 and P965, specifically). So, naturally, I was wondering about the possibilities of building on an nForce chipset, simply because I want to have SLI as an upgrade path (and don't mention Crossfire, I hate ATI cards. They're absolute garbage under Linux, and even under Windows I've had issues). The specific board I'm looking at is the nForce 650i-based MSI P6N.

Anybody try this board, or a similar board? How about a board using another nForce chipset?

So... nobody?

OK, I'm thinking maybe I should go with the safer Intel chipsets... but then, I do have that nagging voice in the back of my head, screaming, "Go for it! Go for it! You'll be the first!"

Most people use 680i's to OC since they OC better.

The 650 also has 2x8 on it's lanes and not 2x16 like the 680.

If you notice it also says "Extreme FSB Clocking" with Best and Good in it.

680i = For overclocking.
650i = Limited, but possible.

Intel chipsets are more popular because they have less issues and it's less of a headache to overclock.
