Pentium Dual Core E5500 (2.8ghz) Vs Core 2 Duo E7500 (2.93ghz)

Hey guys. I am currently using a Pentium Dual Core E5500 overclocked to 3.6 ghz. A friend of mine has a Core 2 Duo E7500 he'd like to sell. Would I (the eye, lol) notice any difference in gaming? My motherboard is an ASRock with a G41 chipset. The other specs are a 500W Cooler Master PSU, 4GB DDR3 RAM and a really old GTX 260 Core 216. My current processor WEIs in at 7.0.

I agree with digdog. No point, practically zero difference. Both are based off the same architecture, but have subtle differences, mainly extra cache on the Core 2 Duo, and slightly higher stock frequencies. The Pentium Dual's have higher multipliers though.

As a matter of interest, how did you attain that OC? It was my understanding you couldn't overclock on a G41!

As a matter of interest, how did you attain that OC? It was my understanding you couldn't overclock on a G41!

I incrementally adjusted the CPU frequency from the stock 200 (200*14=2800 mhz) to 257 (257*14=3598 mhz), and the PCI-E frequency from 100 mhz to 105 mhz. Every other setting is at Auto. I didn't increase VCore as my motherboard's BIOS has no option for making VCore adjustments. I can go upto 3640 mhz but I get random blue screens.

Watch our for that PCI e frequency though, that can put paid to other hardware parts, asides from mobo/cpu. Excellent job though.

For my motherboard, the FSB and the PCI-E frequency are linked. If I keep it at the stock 100 mhz I can not go beyond 3.08 ghz. 105 mhz is my sweet spot, for now at least. Anything beyond 105 mhz and I get lockups. Can the extra frequency cycles damage my video card or other components?

yes, it most certainly can. That PCI-e frequency is a tricky one. It may not even show any problems day to day, but you can be sure it will reduce the lifespan of some or all of your components, and has the potential to kill any hardware component. Effectively it OC's the whole system! Saying that, if it has been running stable for you, then maybe it's not a massive concern. Either way i'm impressed with your OC.
