Hey guys, I know the fastest of the bunch is the i5 yet I'm skeptical as to which route to go.. I want to be able to play next gen games on medium settings for a while (2-3 years) and have a good enough gpu but by CPU (2.4Ghz core 2 duo) is holding me back..

I want to primarily be gaming with a few open tabs in google chrome and looking at games like arkham knight and gta v wanna make sure that my cpu is up to the task.. which one should I go for?

also, I will not be overclocking at all and I want a setup that runs out of the box..

Mobo: http://www.dabs.com/products/asus-h81m-plus-s1150-intel-h81-ddr3-matx-8Y68.html
CPU: http://www.dabs.com/products/intel-core-i5-4440-s1150-3-10ghz-6mb-8XTR.html
RAM: http://www.dabs.com/products/crucial-8gb-kit--2-x-4gb--ballistix-sport-xt-1600mhz-ddr3-1-5v-240-pin-dimm-cl9-8PQ2.html

so will this be enough for a while? or should I go down the 6 core route?

What games will you be playing? What is your budget for a new MoBo, CPU and RAM?

In gaming, on average, the i5 has 10-15% better single core performance, but only 3-5% better multicore performance. That's at stock speeds.

The FX 6300 is VERY easy to overclock, and will easily do 4.2-4.5 GHz on a good air cooler. At that speed it runs closer to a 3570k or 4670k in games. If you like that speed boost but still don''t want to OC, the FX 6350 has a 4.2 GHz stock turbo speed. No OC required.

Battlefield 3/4/ future titles
Arkham knight
Far cry 3
Gta v
dead island 2/ dying light
open world games of the future

my budget is 220 pounds and it has to be from that website in OP

The i5 4440 + h87 motherboard is cheaper than the fx8350 + a motherboard that'll support a decent overclock. And even then, you can go with an 8320 + decent motherboard for overclocking. You'll also have to add in an aftermarket cooler at some point or another because the stock cooler isn't very effective when you're gaming with the fx8350.

Unless rendering or video editing or something comes to mind, there's no reason to go for the 8350 if you can go for an i5.

As for the combos, if you want to overclock, go with the 6300, or maybe 8320 if the price difference isn't too big(maybe 10$ difference from the 6300 to 8320). Pair it up with a gigabyte 970 UD3P if you're on a low budget and add in a cm 212 evo.

If you're not planning on overclocking, go with the i5 4440.

Thats the thing, Im not wanting to overclock at all (preferably) but if the more cores which i know are not physical offer better performance than the I5 ill take the leap.. what motherboard should I go for if i go down the i5 route.. could you perhaps choose a cheap and effecient combo (since i wont be overclocking) from the OP above?

Any motherboard that can support the i5 would do just fine. I personally prefer to have more ram slots in case I want to add that in the future just in case I feel like i'm running low on ram and what not.

But It'll do just fine.
