So im on a budget to build a pc I have a 430watt corsair psu.I also have a gtx 650 ti 2gb version

nonboost. so my problem is im on a tight budget and would like to get an i5 but cannot. So I

started looking into the petium g3420 and from my understanding it is about as fast as the i3 but

without the hyper threading. What I also have been told is most games don't utilize

hyperthreding.should I buy a Pentium for $70 spend half as much on the cpu or should I get an i3

even though im will upgrade to an i5 in the future.(All chips haswell)

Also can I get some ideas for cheap components I have $300-$400 to work with need Mobo,Ram,Case, cpu .

The hyperthreading not being utilized is a myth that needs to die, or at least be corrected in its explanation. Buy an i3 4130. On the i3's hyperthreading does get utilized far more often than they do for an i7. Hence why it is on the recommended list for gaming CPU's and the Pentium G is not.

So my main purpose for the computer is to play pc games. Like I said I would like upgrade to a I5 later. But I guess my real question is would the Pentium be able to play newer games at 720p with low to medium settings?

Thanks for your input

As long as, like you said, you keep the quality and resolution low, the G3420 is a very respectable and usable processor. The i3-4130 definitely is a step better, but it will be better in the long run to spend less now, and then upgrade to an i5 later, with less regret.

You can also even wait until the end of 2014 (if you can!) and get a Broadwell Intel i5. Broadwell will bring speed improvements and a die shrink to 14nm. My opinion is, though, the Pentium will be good enough until then!

Good luck!
