Pentium G3420 Vs I5 4460

I currently have the Pentium G3420. I am thinking of upgrading to an Intel Core I5 4460. Both processors are clocked at 3.2Ghz. I understand the Pentium has 2 cores and the I5 has 4 cores. However, I am interested in knowing how single-core performance would be different. How much better single-core performance will the I5 give me?

Yes, it is a locked motherboard. I run this Pentium on a web server running Ubuntu and the Apache server software. Apache utilizes all a processor's cores, so 4 cores will help me a lot since my hosting is gaining popularity and more CPU intense code is being run.

So you're saying single-core performance will be about equal, correct? The I5 won't be worse in single cores, will it?

I was thinking the I5 maybe had a higher IPS each core due to a higher transistor count than the Pentium.

The i5 will be slightly faster not only because of clock speed, but also because it can run ram at higher speeds (1600 mhz.)

Ooh good because my current RAM is 1600Mhz and I am getting 1333 with it.

It depends on what your doing, have a look at some benchmarks, eg pentiums are missing some instructions so its not all about ghz/cache on the other hand if your software doesnt make use of them the i5 will be no gain.
