I was looking at the Pentium G4560 . Im wondering since it only has 2 cores if it can drive todays latest games without stuttering? I have a HD 7870 coming in the mail. Ill also be using a GTX 980 . Both will be tested with the CPU.
Do you guys think its enough for Witcher 3, GTA 5 , Doom and PUBG? All the latest games? Thanks

Yes, it can handle a lot for such a cheap price. I've seen it paired with a 1070 with only a small bottleneck. Should be able to handle all the latest games. It does only have 2 cores, but it's hyperthreaded so virtually, it has 4. The only thing you'll have issues with is streaming or heavy video editing.

Edit: The thing a lot of people miss is that this specific cpu has hyperthreading. Pentiums in the past have never used this feature, but this generation is basically a cheaper i3. The pentium won't bottleneck a GTX 980.

That chip will not be able to handle "all" of the latest games. But it is a very good budget CPU and can handle a majority games at lower detail settings. Some CPU heavy games such as BF1 or Witcher 3 may struggle to play the games because it is a dual core chip.

You might want to consider something form the Ryzen 3 lineup if it is still in your budget and go with a quad core.

Thats not true, detail settings has 0 to do with it. While it will hold back maximum framerate, the single cores in this CPU still are Skylake cores and have the IPC to keep up with modern games. It will not struggle to play any of these games, and even if it did, adjusting the settings will do nothing to help it.

Would the FX 8350 be better? It would be the same price and come with the new Wraith cooler. If I can get a Ryzen 3 and motherboard for $140 or cheaper I would.... But sadly I dont think that possible :/ What do you think?
Im just scared that the G4560 will stutter..... Kinda like the G3258

DO NOT BUY AN FX 8350. Dead processor, dead platform. Waste of money.

The G4560 will do what you want. Its the hot budget gaming processor. Otherwise get the Ryzen 3.

Okay ill just get the G4560. Why does everyone hate the FX 8350? Isnt it better than the G4560 in gaming but with no upgrade path?

@Rogue Leader - The LGA 1151 Platform seems dead. Intel has dumped it.
@SubaruWRX244 - Yeahbosulety! Getting the FX 8350 w/ Wraith Cooler seems a lot better than the G4560. You get some slower 8 Cores and 8 Threads against some faster 2 Cores and 4 Threads. Plus, you get to overclock the 8350 as the Wraith Cooler is decent. (Make sure to get at least a 970 Chipset MoBo, not those 760 ones.) The G4560 might yield you some more frames in average but the 8350 definitely yields more frames than the G4560 in minimums and 0.01% lows. And for multitasking, the 8350 is better. And in streaming and video editing, the G4560 is definitely no match for the 8350.

Because its a 5 year old processor that was competitive 5 years ago but not now. Most games actually perform BETTER on the Pentium. And if you decide to upgrade you can just drop an i7 in its place and have a way faster system. There is no upgrade path for the FX 8350

This is literally some of the worst advice and incorrect info I've ever seen here. 1151 is not dead, while the next gen of Intel CPUs won't be on it, the current gen, which is THREE generations newer than the FX 8350 is on it.

Buying a 5 year old processor on a discontinued platform, that doesn't even perform as well in gaming tasks as a dual core hyperthreaded budget processor from Intel is a waste of money. Subaru do not listen to this poor advice.

And I say this as someone who is dyed in the wool AMD.

Okay... Im not going to be upgrading either one down the road lol.... So if I can get either FX 8350 or G4560 for the same price with a motherboard, you'd recommend the G4560? Seems like every loves the CPU :) I'm just scared that it might stutter.

Go with Ryzen. Their upgrade path's will be supported all the way up to the year 2020, using the same chipset/motherboard. This means you could essentially upgrade from a quad core Ryzen 3 to a more optimized 8 core (16 thread) or possibly more cores in two to three years. Lets face the facts, if you are looking for the most value when spending your money, you want a cpu upgrade path, then Ryzen is the answer all day long.

Aight sounds good! So do you think this motherboard will go good with it?

I like both alot. Both are $55..... Ranger is $100 but has a $50 mail n rebate. Missing UPC???

Super fancy boards, I don't see the prices you see. Problem with both is both need a BIOS update to work with the G4560, so unless you can get that beforehand they are useless. The ASUS is the better board. Also both are kind of excessive for that CPU. Better off with a B250 board otherwise.

I have an I7 6700K I can slap in it to update the Bios. Each board is $55 Open Box... What's the difference from B250 and Z170?

Edit: Cheapest board at Microcenter is a Gigabyte H110M-A :/ at $38

CPU: The Intel Pentium G4560 was the processor to get when it released at $60 - $65. However, at the current $85 price point, logic dictates that you buy the next step up. For $86.99 you'd want to purchase the G4600. It has a 100 MHz higher base clock, but the integrated graphics is 82% more powerful (http://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-HD-630-Desktop-Kaby-Lake-vs-Intel--HD-610-Desktop-Kaby-Lake/m178724vsm225196). That won't generally matter because you'll be using a much faster discreet graphics card, but for $1.99 more, it's a no-brainer.

GPU: The GTX 980 is 116% faster than the HD 7870 (http://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Nvidia-GTX-980-vs-AMD-HD-7870/2576vs2161). Between the two, you should use the GTX 980 and only the 980 for gaming. Only use both of them if you plan on doing GPU rendering. Sell the HD 7870 on Ebay; it should net about $65. Invest the money into your build. Normally I would say that you should purchase Intel Optane, which is a storage cache that'll boost your hard drive to faster than SATA SSD speeds. The problem is that Intel only supports that functionality on their "Core" line (e.g. i3, i5, i7) but not the Pentium line. Which brings me to my next point, you might consider waiting until the end of this month to pull the trigger. The Intel Coffee Lake line has already been announced. It was supposed to be available in October, but rumor has it that they will be for sale by the end of September. My hope is that Intel will allow the Coffee Lake Pentiums to permit Optane caching.

Summary: Don't purchase G4560; purchase G4600.
Keep GTX 980 / sell HD 7870
If buying current Kaby Lake generation then use money to double RAM from 8 GB to 16 GB.
If buying near-future Coffee Lake generation then "possibly" use money to purchase Optane memory IF it supports caching for Pentium CPUs. Also, you should consider purchasing a motherboard with two SSD slots, so that you have the option to have both a Optane memory (m.2 form factor) and a m.2 SSD installed simultaneously. Newegg sells twelve B250 chipset motherboards that have two M.2 slots, seven of which are under $100. Once the price exceeds $100 then you should upgrade to the Z270 chipset, so that the motherboard supports the overclocking functionality (https://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100007627%204814%20600567584%20601276223%208000%20600567794%20601205170&IsNodeId=1&bop=And&Order=PRICE&PageSize=36)

Oh in that case then definitely get the ASUS Z170 you found

Once again Thanks!!! Turns out the Asus Board wont have the $50 mail/rebate. Ill just get the Asrock . Thanks again!
