Hello,
Intel has recently released new Pentium CPU's with HyperThreading.
Take the G4560, it's clocked at 3.5Ghz and it has HyperThreading, for $64 according to Intel's website, that's half the price of the cheapest i3($120 for the 7100).
As far as specs say and benchmarks that I've seen, the Pentium should perform about 10%-15% worse than the i3-7100. That's awesome, I would much rather spend half as much for 10% less,
They might think that a lot of people will go for the i3-7350k, just to overclock it.
$180 is too much for an i3, If I'm spending that much on overclocking essentials, like a "z" board($100+), a better cooler(~$50), I'd rather get a cheaper motherboard($70) and a 7600k($250). Why would I want to overclock a dual-core chip?It's gonna get ouperformed by a stock 7600k.
