So which is it a Pentium or a Celeron? What is the laptop? OEM computers pretty limited and laptops are even more limited. Add to that the fact that it is pretty old and I really don't think it is worth the money and hassle to upgrade. I would just get a new laptop.

I HAVE A CELERON NOW ASSUME AN UPGRADE WOULD BE A PENTIUM M OR CAN I GO TO A CORE DUO

We can't answer that if you don't tell us the laptop model. You can't just put any CPU into the socket and expect it to work. Every motherboard has a BIOS and in the BIOS is a list of CPU's that can work with that motherboard.
