Nice figures; one thing to notice for the Conroe core is that sometimes cache counts heavily at these levels and other times, it counts much less.

well as far as core arch. goes its the same but it only has 1mb of L2 cahe compared to 4mb. Still awesome tho, i wonder how confusing this will be for the general population and average customers. "what, Pentium is low class now?"

These will apply some more-direct pressure on the x2 3600/x2 3800, at least in the enthusiast circles. Quite impressive when overclocked. These definitely kick the E4x00 series off the overclocking budget throne.

It's just nice to know when people ask me what they can build for $500 I can give them more options. Intel just needed a better Budget Dual core. I couldn't stand the Pentium D anymore.

Not entirely.

Tests have shown that the E21x0 chips don't scale as well as E4xxx/E6xxx chips when overclocked to 3GHz. At stock speeds it isn't far off the E4xxx clock for clock but at 3GHz it's about 10% slower clock for clock. It's still not a slouch by any means though, as Xbitlabs shows an E2160 @ 3.4GHz outperforms a stock X6800 most of the time.

The other major question mark seems to be the very inconsistent overclocking results at this stage, ranging from 2.8GHz to 3.4GHz for the review samples. I've very rarely seen an E4xxx chip fail to hit 3GHz at least.

I don't think Intel bins these chips very aggressively (nor do they need to), but if you can get one that can do 3 - 3.5GHz then indeed it will be the new budget o/c champ. :trophy:
