You can easily run Real Temp, or Core Temp and look at the VID of your processor.
If you just picked it up as a retail box, be ready for the worse VIDs! 1.3000, 1.3125, and 1.3250!
If not, I hope you get a low one, like 1.2000!
List it here when you look!

I'm currently running q6600 at 3.6ghz at 1.45vcore, on a 1.3125 VID g0 chip. Tried 4ghz, couldn't get it to run prime95 stable until 1.65vcore. Too high. 
Didn't try 3.0ghz. It's too low, there's no point in starting there. I just started at 3.6ghz at 1.55vcore, and decreased it slowly until finding the lowest prime95 stable vcore.

I have a Q6600 G0 currently at 3.0 only upped the fsb to 333 and ready to go!

I have a Nox Coolbay case and the problem is that the fan is not properly oriented..it is oriented towards the PSU instead of the rear of the case (where i have a 120 exhaust fan).
Since the Thermaltake is very wide i cant get it in the orientation that i want.
Already have done the measures and with the Sunbeam Core Contact Freeze it will fit like a glove and taking the exhaust right out of the case. Here in Portugal is hot right now.. and the office gets pretty warm..
Im not in a hurry...trying to sell the old cooler to a friend and then buy the new one

I have a Q6600 with the G0 stepping, I had no problem setting the clock to 3.2GHz with Air cooling. I stepped it back to 3.0GHz just for safety sake even though I didnt have any real issues at 3.2 Im using a XFX 680i LT mobo and 8 Gig of Corsair CM2x2048-6400C5 memory. Windows Vista 64 of course and an EVGa 9800GTX video card.
I managed to get a stable 15,700 3Dmark06 out of this set up with no exotic tweaking and the voltages are whatever the mobo sets for my FSB, no seperate tweaking.
Actually Lupiron helped me get this setup working on a different forum I believe.

I'm rocking 3.2GHz on a Q6600 G0 (VID=1.3125V). I am still tweaking it, but I have Vcore down at 1.3250 and it's Prime stable. I don't know if I want to go higher, though I think I have lots of headroom left. During Prime my hottest core is 52C, coolest is 43C. With such a low Vcore @ 3.2GHz, I'm sure I could make 3.6 at or below 1.4V.
Johoz, you haven't mentioned what you are using for cooling, what motherboard, or what RAM, even PSU can be limiting you. I'm not sure, is this a concensus or are you looking for help? If it's the latter, let's have some more info. Chances are someone here will have a similar setup to give you a point to start from.

i OC-ed my friends to 3.0ghz at stock voltages been completely stable for months.

As in: Each q6600, should be designed to handle up to .115 of total VDrop and droop. So that means a 1.3250, the worse VID, can opporate at 1.2 volts or so... and have no problems.
That is your Intel Warranty buffer you are playing with when you get the free 400-600 Mhz by making your chip load up to its rated VID!
Still wonder what his is. I need someone to buy a box processor and get a good VID! Not all 1.3000 or "f"-ing higher!!

for long term use (the kind where its on 24/7 in 80+ degree rooms) I found above 3.2 to be warmer than i prefer at 1.315v without significant noise/air flow. 3.0 GHz can run virtually silent if you have a big enough fan and heatsink.
P5K-e has default voltage settings built in for when you change the multiplier and bus. Settings are good for up to 8x400, but had to manually set voltage to 1.4 to bump up to 9x400

I have my Q6600 Go running at 3.2ghz with vcore set 1.28. my vid is 1.2625. It has been stable for months running 24/7. my idle temps are 35,34,34,35 and under load are in the mid 50's on all cores. I am running a zalman 9700 and a antec sonota 2 case. With a case with better airflow I think my temps would be a bit cooler.

Got mine to 3.5 @ ~1.46v
seems the sweet spot for all 65nm core 2's is around 3.2ghz before you need alot more juice and effort to break ~3.6

most benchmarks ive seen they hit 3k without raising the voltage. I run Crucial Ballistix 6400 wich runs at 2.2v but in reality this ram will do 1000mhz at 1.9 volts. So when I raise the FSB and the ram speed keeps going up I dont have to worry about the ram voltage.
remember that your ram speed will increase wich is good if it can run at higher speeds than stock.

you can also with with the patriot wich is also lowered price. or just newer ocz ram
also @ 3k mhz you dont need to upgrade the fan since u will notice that the temp will only raise by 2degrees

Or brining a flash drive with you to best buy, or office depot, etc, with Core Temp on it, and run it and look! Then offer to buy the display model!
That, or have a friend that works there, etc..
You get the idea. Or watch Craigs List for someone to place one up for sale, and just e mail the guy and ask him to open Core Temp, and tell you what the VID is.
If you wanna get it from a store, OEM, just like Dagger said.
That doesn't mean you will get a good VID, By The Way, it just means now you have the 5% chance, instead of the zero % chance with a box version.
So good Luck! I have ended up with OEM 1.3250 q6600 and 6700. However, I also had a 1.2250 and 1.2375 VID q6700!
And a 1.2000, 1.2500, 1.2625, 1.2750, 1.3000, 1.3125 and 1.3250 Q6600.
Unlike ALL the box versions being 1.3000 +, you can see that OEM sure does matter! At least you get the chance to get a Low one!

my vid is 1.3250 and i can get it stable at 3.2 vdrop and vdroop 1.2480 i also have a 1.2500 and it didn't overclock as well so i dumped it into my girls computer though i must admit the temps were lower with the 1.2500
