I've seen the tiny performance gains for each generation of intel CPUs since the late 2000s especially since Sandybridge which makes me wonder if there is a list of performance gains/differences between older generations of intel CPUs from the mid 80s and 90s.
It would be very interesting to see how much faster the 80486 is compared to it's predecessor or between Pentium 1st gen (believe from the early 90s) and the 486
or even the difference beween different cpus within a single generation considering the i486 DX4 should be way faster than the older i486 SX

Unfortunately, that is very hard to do, since most things compiled after the Pentium require MMX to run, even though they don't really need MMX. So you would not have an "apples to apples" comparison of performance.

If you go through theoretical values, in the 80s, each generation doubled the performance of the previous up to the Pentium. This is from memory though, but I do recall seeing an article (might have been in Anandtech) where they indeed tried to test everything from the 486SX generation up to whatever was new at the time.

EDIT: This might strike your fancy: https://www.anandtech.com/show/53

Cheers!

things started to jump after pentium II which came in cartridges . i mean the cpu clock speed . after that it got quite fast and some awesome games came subsequently .
