I currently have 16 GB of ram installed in my system but I have 2 slots available to add more. Would I see any real performance gain from adding more ram? Thanks.

Current Specs:
Asus Z97-A motherboard
i7 4790K
16 GB DDR3 Crucial Ballistix ram
Asus ROG Strix GTX 1080
EVGA SuperNOVA 650w power supply

Solution
Yeah, if you arent using up all your RAM currently, you wouldnt see any gains from adding more.
Ideally, this also helps you save money for a future upgrade, no reason to invest money into RAM you are going to have to replace some day with DDR4 anyway.
Thats not exactly how RAM works.
Having more RAM does not increase performance, RAM only impacts performance when you dont have enough of it. If you currently arent using all your RAM then you wont see any difference.

If anything, you would have lower performance from the increased load on the memory controller.

So in this case would it just be best to leave it how it is?

Yeah, if this is for gaming, you won't currently run into any games that require more RAM than you already have. Most will get along fine on 8GB, even. I wouldn't expect having more than 16GB of RAM to make a notable difference in new game releases for at least a couple years, if not longer.
