I have an old Intel based computer with an ASUS motherboard that only has a PCI Express 1.0 slot. The CPU is an Intel Core 2 Quad Q8300 2.5GHz with 8GB DDR2 PC2-6400 RAM (dual channel).

I'm wondering how effective the GeForce GTX 750 Ti (2GB) card will be? I know this card supports PCI Express 3.0 (and is backwards compatible with 2.0 and 1.0 slots) but I'm not sure how big of performance hit it takes when in a PCI Express 1.0 slot.

I'm looking at a Zotac ZT-70603-10M model which I can get for $119.99

Note I currently use a 23" LED LCD with a native 1080p (1920x1080) resolution.

Solution
the performance decrease will be minimal. no worries. only high end cards benefit from the extra bandwidth that comes with the newer pci ex interface.

and pci ex 1.0 16x is the same as pxi ex 2.0 running at 8x.

Solution
As far as i remember, even a GTX980 will barely drop 5-10% from using half of the PCI-E 3.0 bandwidth so a 750Ti running on a full 16x PCI-E 1.0 will have no problems.

Be careful about the power limits though, most 750Ti cards pull all the power from the PCI-E slot and if i'm not mistaken 1.0 provides less power than 3.0. The zotac card you mentioned has the soldering points for a 6-pin connector but the connector is not present.

I have the same problem, I have a HP Slimline PC with an Irvine GL6E motherboard and I found out it has a PCIe x16 v1.0.

The pc itself is great for me, it has a Core 2 Duo E4600 and 3gb DDR2 and a 500W PSU, it just lacks graphics power, I had the 750 Ti from Zotac in mind too but now after what you said about the PCIe 1.0 and 3.0 im not sure if my mobo can handle it :/

Just be sure to pick one with an auxiliary power connector or just buy the "regular" 750 (non-TI) version.

Edit: by the way, does "slim line" means "small form factor"? If it's true, you need to pick a low profile card with low profile brackets included.
I recently installed a MSI GT720 on a HP DC7800 small form factor PC (Core2Duo E8400 3.0GHz) and it worked fine.

Yeah I was aware of the brackets size, but i figured I would buy a bigger budget case, just to fit all in there and to have a bigger cooling area. I dont really care about the looks, as long as it works is fine for me.

I will take my chances with the GTX 950 from Zotac, it has an auxiliary 6-pin connector so maybe it will be ok?

I want to keep upgrading my system, just one thing at a time since I dont have a lot of money 😀 😀 😀
