Performance reduction from USB extender?

MY mouse/keyboard cable is a bit short and if I extend it with an extender will the performance reduce noticeably?

It won't. Just keep in mind that not all devices will power on when using extensions above certain lengths. I believe that the standard for the total length should not exceed 5m (don't trust me on this one), but it will vary greatly depending on the device and the current it requires. But regarding mouse/keyboards there shouldn't be a problem as long as it's only one extension per device. But back to your main concern, it shouldn't affect performance.
