Performed the standard "No POST" checklist still "No Post"

I built a gaming PC about 3 months ago, Everything ran great, until last night.

Now my computer starts up but;
No beep, so probably no post test?
my monitor searches and then displays "check signal cable"
mouse dead
keyboard wont light

What does work are fans, dvd drive, lights on Motherboard, lights on PS.

Interesting side note is I have to push the CPU cooler fan to get it running. Once started fans stays running. So maybe the CPU heated up and died? Could the CPU be fried? Causing the no post test?

Update when I plug in a different fan in the CPU_Fan slot, and start the computer up the CPU fan starts.
The fan that was in the computer when it stopped working, always needs a push to start running.

Will a bad CPU cause the computer to "not beep" on start up, stopping POST?

My computer worked for three months. So it was built correct. I think my CPU fan was not running, and the CPU over heated, then died. My computer was left on all day, possible without the fan running.
Would that cause the POST to fail?
I've tried a different fan to check the CPU fan connector and the fan runs like a champ. Put the old fan back in and it needs a kick star(push the fan blades) then it runs.

I have reviewed the guide, just wanting to understand the CPU's involvement in the post test. Maybe causing the start up to not beep, making me think it's Not performing the post test.

For sure the CPU cooling fan is not working correctly.

The fan has prob damaged the motherboard (worn bearings), even without a cpu the motherboard should give bios beeps to let you know whats faulty and if all is ok. go over all conections and make sure the boards 4 pin is pluged in to the mobo as that can cause all to power on but not start up, also try another psu as even if fans spin doesnt mean its working (had that prob with a friends build and the psu was new but defective).

I don't have an extra Power Supply.
I went over all the power supply connections, still no joy.


I've been told that you won't get any Beep if your CPU is dead. I'm also being told the opposite.

So I'm down to:
Replace Power Supply
Replace CPU
Replace Motherboard

What do you start with? Power Supply?

For sure replacing the CPU fan.

replace the cpu first and see what happens, if fails get a new mobo. just remember that if it fails and you do take/send the new cpu back that the old one could have died with the board. its pretty much one of the 2, doubt its the psu.
oh have you reset the bios to default ? anythings worth a try.

I understand what you are saying about the CPU dying with the mobo.

Maybe order both the CPU and mobo and try the CPU first, if it works return the un-used mobo. If the same fail is happening then try the new mobo and new CPU.
Maybe mobo first since the "new CPU" might get fried again.

What makes you eliminate the Power Supply? Just wanting to understand, I don't think its the PS either, just curious.

I had a fried PC 12 years ago due to a faulty PSU. I think if it's the PSU, the whole PC will be fried together, as It happened to me. 😀

id eliminate the psu as the board is getting power from it but as you stated it had a dead fan and a 3x and even a x2 core couldnt survive without a fan, the mobo should have shut off at a certain temperature but that depended on the bios settings, e.g mine will shut of at 60*c if fan failed or temps got to much past the limit i set.

I had a fried PC 12 years ago due to a faulty PSU. I think if it's the PSU, the whole PC will be fried together, as It happened to me. 😀

the last problem i had with my pc was the psu, leaking capacitors but i soldered 2 new ones in from a 250w psu and all is fine (not recommended).

What risk is there in trying a new CPU in my mobo? I don't think the motherboard is fried, the LED comes on and there is still power to the fans off the motherboard.
Just dont want to fry a new CPU.

very little, i think the cpu was cooked. if psu was damaged i think youd be looking at a smouldering wreck so it really looks like its the cpu cooked because of the lack of cooling. psu's can be pretty reliable, iv got a 350w thats been wasted by a x1900xt and the pc would keep shuting off when it was overloading but it still running fine 4 years on, id say your psu was ok. theres always a risk mixing new parts and old with unknown problems.

Have you taken the cpu out and re seated it? prob wont help but you would see if theres any noticable damage to cpu like scorch marks, normally you can smell if something is fried, i had a pentium4 that was fried, the heat spreader was burnt. i sniff around it and see if you can find damage to the mobo to.

Re-seat the CPU is a good idea. Like you said can check the chip. I haven't smelled any burn semiconductor. But that doesn't mean the CPU's not damaged
