Periodic high latency spikes

Hello everyone, first post here.

Within the last few days, I've been experiencing some high spikes in latency that have made gaming unbearable.

Configuration:
Custom build desktop.
Windows 10 64 bit Version 1607 KB3176936
Intel i5-4690K
ASUS Z97AR
8GB ram
Corsair CX750 PSU
WiFi Adapter: Linksys WUSB6300

Network:
Provider: Cox cable
Modem: Motorola SBG6580
Router: ASUS RT-AC88U (8 devices)


I've done:
Rebooted computer countless times
Power cycled modem and router multiple times


Troubleshooter:
Network reset
Disable/enable network adapter

In cmd as admin:
netsh winsock reset
netsh int ipv4 reset
tracert google.com (deleted personal ip address)

Let me know if there is more information required to help me. I have no idea what's causing this issue and would like to know if there is a glaring cause or if there's more troubleshooting to do.

USB Wifi adapters tend to be pretty unreliable, especially through a floor or a wall. They're low powered and have a puny antenna and are often drowned in interference from the rest of your PC. If directly connecting your computer to your router with an ethernet cable is physically possible, do so, and run the tracert again. If you're still getting sporadic results, call your ISP and have them come see if there's a problem in the walls or in the street. It looks to me like you're getting some kind of obstruction somewhere down the line, as if a data center is dying.

Then again, what do I know? I'm pretty network-ignorant myself.

I ordered 100ft of cat6, but it won't be here for a few days.

Does that 100ft of cable already have the connectors at either end? If it's just a plain old roll of cat6, you might need to get your own connectors, strippers, and crimp tool.

There are RJ45 connectors on it already.

I'm having this same exact issue. Mine only spikes at night then goes back to normal during the day. Did you find out anything?

Sorry this is a bit late; however, I haven't had an issue since installing the cat6.
