I've been reading Bel's posts (Thanks for those) and thinking of picking up
some of the games he reviewed, but want to ask some questions first. The
fishing games look like something I'd enjoy, and I'd definitely like to get
the fishing rod. I'd like to know if there is any reason to get two fishing
rods, is there a two player mode?

Also, I've seen lightguns for the DC on ebay, often offered with House of
the dead 2. What are other games that use the lightgun, and again, is there
a reason to get two?

thanks,

There is, but I think you both just share the one fishing rod. On the subject
though: I remember reading a post a long while back that talked about the two
brands of fishing rods out there(the Sega brand and the Performance brand). I
remember them saying that they felt the Sega brand rod was best for Sega Bass
Fishing while the Performance was better for Sega Marine Fishing. Take a look on
Google Groups at some point, you may be able to find it. I, personally, have the
Performance rod and it seems to do fine on both games...

HotD2 will support the use of two lightguns. Past that there's Confidential
Mission and this other game(can't remember what it's called, but I hear it was
pretty bad...came out at the very end of the DC's lifecycle). That's about it
though. I always wanted to get the few lightgun games out on the DC(I'm a
lightgun game freak) but the fact that there was no way to use my Stunners(from
the Saturn) really killed it for me. :(

BTW, I'll shoot this over to RGVS as well, as this group isn't really as hoppin'
as it should be, and you'll most likely get more info by me doing this. :)

Well As Bell said, there were 2 brands of fishing rods. Sega & the
Madcatz I think. Not needed but helpful. Lightguns: Only had 2 or games
that used it. HOUSE of the Dead, Confidential Mission & ???? Strangely
Sniper Scope is not on the list..... So if you can still find one, pick
it up I guess. Steering wheel: Only seen once or twice in the stores.
Arcade stick & the Panther DC control stick: The arcade stick is just
that, a arcade style ball on stick with buttons on the side. Helpful in
playing some games. The PantherDC is a Flying joystick with some
additional buttons on the base & a track ball. Now this is a Peripheral
worth finding. The ability to control a game with several functions is
made much easier with one hand ( flying games where you need to work
throttles, flaps, guns and such are more natural than with a standard
controler). Keyboard:
very nice item if you have a browser or have a game that uses it. The
Maracas: for Somba de Amigo. Mircophone: I think Seaman used it & Alien
Online.

Dreameye: was a web cam that didn't make it here. The VCD player disk/
Dreamovieplayer: With this the DC can play VCD's. You pop in a boot disk
then you can play you vcd using the DC controler. The Dream movie goes a
step better and gives you a wireless remote. Not as good as the PS2's
true DVD player abiliity, but its nice. Have lots of Vcd's from Ebay.

The DCX boot disk: lets your US DC play Japan and Uk DC games without
chips or anything. Still lots of great Japan only games for sale
arround. And lastly Bleem! A boot disk that would let you play PS1 games
on the DC. Sony ran them out of business however. THey did sell 3 disks
just for playing Metal gear Solid, Tekken3, and Grand Turismo. through
EB games. Hard to find now.

Since you mentioned keyboard so why there's no mouse mentioned?:) Keyboard
is great for typing of the dead but there's PC version already so might be
easier to get that instead. Although might be kind of hard to find a copy
now since they dumped them quite few years ago. Europe should have more
copies.

Sure, there's the keroake addon and the.........Twin stick for ultimate
Virtual On experience...well unless you get a real arcade machine.:)

TotD on the PC is pretty good, though the graphics aren't nearly as good as
the DC version. I wrote up a quick review for the PC version a while back if
you're interested:
http://www.whipassgaming.com/PC/typingofdeadpc.html

As for the DC mouse, a few games support it, like Soldier of Fortune, Unreal
Tournament, Quake III, etc. It's not bad, if you've got the room and setup for
it on your couch or whatnot.

I think you can use a converter to allow for use of the Saturn version of the
Twin Sticks(assuming you've got it).

Cool, there is a seller on ebay that has a bunch (240) of what appears to be
the non sega brand fishing rod with both Sega Bass Fishing and Sega Marine
Fishing

Depending on what he's charging, that'd be a nice package.

or you could just get the package of sega bass fishing, sega marine
fishing, and 1st party sega DC fishing rod for $30 at sega-parts website...

http://www.sega-parts.com/specials/index.htm

not an indorsement, just a bit o' convenience for our community of sega
fans. no wasting time sitting around ebay auctions and getting roughly
the same thing but only a 2nd party controller instead.

Hey guys, don't forget that the mouse works as a controller in the game
"Silent Scope". In fact, this is the best way to play this game...screw
the controller.

Oh yeah, I always forget about that. You're right, it's pretty cool with
the mouse...though playing it so long with just the controller, I find it
hard to get used to. Still, it was cool that Konami allowed for it to be
used.

Well, it's $16.95 w/ $7.50 shipping. It's strictly a buy it now thing.
Here's the link if anyone's interested.

Thanks for the link. I noticed that they don't have any lightguns for sale,
are they in that short of supply?

Sega of America did not release a U.S.-region light gun for the Dreamcast.
Publically, the reason given was that there was a lot of political and
social pressure against any kind of toy gun product from a game company so
soon after the Columbine High School shootings. I think that the reality
of the situation was that there weren't going to be enough light gun games
on the market for Sega to realistically profit from sales of that specific
piece of hardware in the states. That's just my guess, and I'm in no
position to know for sure.

Of course, there are third-party light guns that work fine on a U.S.
Dreamcast. However, note that the Sega-branded gun released in Japan and
Asia does not work with the American console due to what I assume is a
hardware lockout.

This is all information rapidly fading from my aging brain, so anybody who
knows better or knows different should feel free to pipe up.

Interesting, but event the 3rd party ones are in short supply. The sega
brand ones seem nearly non-existant. I don't really want to pay upwards of
$30 for a light gun, especially if it won't work in my machine.

It'll work in your machine; it will just only play import games (except
for VC2 on the US Smash Pack, which will work with the JPN Sega gun).
