Hi everyone

I've got an ASUS x550J with the following specs:
i7-4720HQ
GTX950m 4gb ddr3
12gb RAM
(windows 8.1 installed)

It is about a year old laptop. So far i have had no problem with it, but all of a sudden some times ago the laptops performance was greatly reduced, but i don't know the reason. The laptop is slower than it was but isn't that much, but in games it is the most noticeable.

Games i have played with high graphics settings around 40-50 fps now barely running on low settings with 30 fps, some games even worse.

First I tried to reinstall windows, it helped but after a week performance was shitty again. So i decided to reinstall again, and try to install only the necessary programs, so I've skipped any unuseful softwares and haven't installed any drivers yet, but after a week (ca.) it happened again without anything new installed or downloaded.

I've tried to search multiple forums for help and tried everything i've found but none of it solved it yet, that's why I'm asking now, because i'm sure you guys have more knowledge about this than me.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Solution
With laptops it can be "dangerous" to update the drivers with ones not specifically provided from the manufacturer's website, even the graphics drivers.

It can also be that an old driver didn't get installed properly, or wasn't removed properly, that's why reinstalling windows fixed the problem, because it gave you a clean slate to work with.
Greetings!

Being a year old, it may be a case of just needing a little TLC. You may want to pop it open and clean out any dust and possibly take off the heat sink(s) and clean and replace your thermal compound on your CPU and GPU. I was having a similar problem with my Samsung RF-511, and just doing that helped greatly.

I hope this helps!

I will try that but it still has a 1 year warranty and i've done a similiar mistake in the past so now i wait a little bit before repeat it

You bet! I am glad to hear you are seeing an improvement!

Well, it was working fine until restart now i have issues again :/
Its like i have 28-35 fps in Overwatch everything set to the lowest settings, and i used to play it with medium/high around 50-60fps
Also i checked temperature Cpu: 47
GPU: 52

So i've reisntalled windows, right now its working fine, so it defienetly not dust. I've just installed Avast and Malwarebytes, but nothing else, so no driver update was installed. dont know if it is worth the risk to update my driver. But since it is working fine after windows install i dont really know what might cause the problem :/

I've always updated it with Geforce Experience, but right now i think im gonna leave it default and see if it will come back, But so far it is working as intended right now, If the problem will ccure once again i think i have no choice but to bring it to the service. But since it is working fine right now this post is solved, thank you guys for your time and advices :) I will watch it closely so when the problem occurs i can make it clear what could cause it :)
Thanks again!
