I'm in the market for a good CPU cooler and I have a $15 gift card I can spend on Newegg. I've decided I want air cooling because it seems to be more bang for your buck and more reliable than water cooling. I've narrowed it down to the Phanteks TC14PE and the PC12DX. (I want to like the Noctua D14, but it's just so ugly..) I have a 4770K processor and plan to overclock to anywhere from 4.0ghz to 4.5ghz with temperatures preferably under 70C. I'm also open to recommendations for other coolers, too. Thanks in advance.

A 4770k generates a lot of heat in OC-ing, even more heat than Ivy CPUs, so the PC12DX might not be able to get it to around 4.5ghz, especially if the 4770k you got is a bad one that eats more power than usual ( meaning more heats to be produced ), you'd want the TC12PE just to be safe. But if you only want to OC to somewhere between 4 and 4.5ghz, PC12TX would still be sufficient, so just get it instead if your budget is limited.

And I don't have any other coolers to recommend, since those Phanteks coolers yield extreme performance while look good and have decent price tags at the same time.

keeping under 70c at 4.5ghz with an air cooler is a difficult task to achieve if you are planning for long hours. the true performance of liquid coolers is achieved while OCing, at stock they tend to perform same or worse than these air coolers. So if OCing is ur intent, better go for liquid.

TC14PE has exceptional cooling capabilites at the price of being bulky, heavy and is a bit hard to install. Liquid coolers are expensive, but light and wont consume much space. U can go for the Corsair H100i. I would not recommend PC12DX though.

^ PC12DX is almost equal to a H100i, and TC14PE can go neck to neck with a H110. Unless you're willing to pay 150$+ for a custom water cooling system, air coolers are still better choice when it comes to performance and ease to maintenance.

+1 agreed :)

Thanks everyone, I'll probably get the TC14PE. I am considering the H100i but I don't really like the idea of water cooling, I'm afraid something would leak, and the H100i is more expensive too.

How cool does it keep your 8350 at that speed? I think I'll get the TC14PE, I doubt I could tell a difference between it and the Noctua, I like the Noctua and realize it's a superb product but to me it's ugly.
