Phaser 8400 Paper Tray Question

1. If tray 2 goes empty during a print job, the printer starts pulling from
tray 1 automatically. We have two different paper types in the two trays -
so this is a small problem. Any way to tell the Phaser NOT to do this, but
to simply notify/wait until tray 2 is refilled?

2. Is there a message board/forum on Xerox's site? If so, could someone
provide a link. I cannot find anything there.

Thanks in advance,
John

On the Phaser 8400's front panel, go to Printer Setup | Paper Handling
Setup, where you should be able to tell it what types of paper are in each
tray. I have an extra tray (tray 3) and that's where my "plain" paper goes.
Tray 2 I call "special". Tray 1 may be treated a bit differently, since it's
more likely for you to want to frequently change what is in Tray 1.

Then, when you print, tell it you want plain or special paper, and it should
only pull from the correct tray. Or, when you print, tell it you want to
print from the specific tray (this is less optimal). Both of those options
need to be selected in Print Setup at time of printing, although most
applications will save the settings with your file for next time.

You can also go to the control panel, select the printer, and make the
default settings. Mine are "fast color" on plain paper. The default setting
will be used for all jobs on that computer unless you change them in each
application or file or print job. (Handy since some MS apps come crippled
and won't allow you to tweak settings)

And, no, Xerox doesn't have a forum. They should... if their users could
show each other how to solve problems I'm sure it would save them a lot of
headaches down the road. The 8400 is a great printer but it does have its
idiosyncrasies, which I had to solve the hard way.
