AMD PHENOM II X2 555 for gaming ? Will be using this CPU with a HD 5830 if its good for gaming .

Playing what games. If you are playing flash player games or kiddie games like the Sims than it's ok but if you want to play games like BF3, Skyrim, COD, and Crysis you are going to need a better processor and better video card.

This vid card is quite good . I went through reviews on youtube . It can support mostly all recent games like Crysis 2 and GTA IV maxed out at 1080p .

Not really. It is a 5XXX series it is now two almost three generations old and games are only becoming more demanding. I don't know what benchmarks you saw but I don't think it is going to play BF3, Skyrim, AC and stuff like that at max settings with AA on at 1920X1080 or greater resolutions.

As for which one of those to get it depends. If you are planning on using a dedicated graphics card there really is no point in getting the APU. The best feature of the APU is it's integrated graphics if you aren't going to use it than all you are really left with is a dedicated graphics card with a weak CPU core. I would go with the I3.

The x2 555 can be unlocked to a quad core if their stable and u have a motherboard to unlock them.

If u cant get the cpu to unlock, a new cpu as a fx6300 has the best performance for its cost, a A10 5800k would do way better than that A6, but if u have a dedicated gpu than an amd apu is pointless.

A new gpu even tho the 5830 is not terrible, new architecture, less power draw, and basically wat u usually would get buying something new its just up to date

I was thinking of getting a second hand Gigabyte HD 5830 for around $80 . Would it be good value or should I just get a new card with around the same price ?

Thats on ultra, he never specified his prefered settings, i consider 35 as playable, not great but playable

A 7870/7850, and 660gtx would be the minimal for 1080p for bf3 on ultra for more than 35fps playable

He's playing with 1920 x 1080 , My monitor screen res is 1366 x 768 . So I guess the frame rates will be higher because of my lower res .
